The Adam Mickiewicz Institute manages the Polish Presidency
2011 – Promesa programme (PLN 20 million budget) of the Minister
of Culture and National Heritage. The objective of the project is
the implementation of a cultural programme during Poland’s EU
Presidency. It will support the participation of Polish artists and
their works in major international art events. It will also partly
finance projects which will introduce Polish culture to the world
during the Polish Presidency. Support will be offered to festivals,
concerts, exhibitions, reviews, performances, film screenings as
well as interdisciplinary projects in public space: installations,
actions, happenings. Moreover, grants will be awarded to projects
related as to their topic to the principal culture projects of the
Polish Presidency:

, projects promoting the oeuvre of
Karol Szymanowski,
Czesław Miłosz Year
, a play based on short
stories by Stanisław Lem, and
A Guidebook to Poles.
This is the second time the Adam Mickiewicz Institute has been
in charge of the programme, meant to widely disseminate Polish
culture around the globe through the promotion of Polish artists
and their works abroad. The budget for the 2010 edition of the
programme amounts to PLN 5 million. Subsidies are granted by
the minister to projects which foster a positive image of our coun-
try worldwide and demonstrate the potential of Polish culture.
238 applications were filed this year; pursuant to a decision of
the minister, financial grants amounting to PLN 3,923,847 were
awarded to 40 of these.

Financial support of the state is indispensable for the development of the country
and civilisational progress. Without it, no society can develop dynamically,
attract foreign investment or play a significant role in the international arena.
The AdamMickiewicz Institute manages programmes of the Minister of Culture
and National Heritage, granting subsidies to authors, culture events
and institutions, and serves as contact points for European Union programmes.
