The festival’s curators arranged the
productions presented in Warsaw into
two segments: one settling accounts with
historical memory, the other concentrating
on the present time.
We brought ten productions to the Russian theatrical spring in
Warsaw, all of which – as Russia’s minister of culture emphasized –
were chosen by independent Polish theatre critics. The curators of

Contemporary Theatre, Drama, and Performance From Russia,
Agnieszka Lubomira Piotrowska and Roman Pawłowski, arranged
the project into two segments: one settling accounts with historical
memory, the other concentrating on the present time. Together they
build the image of a society coping with its totalitarian past while
undergoing rapid modernization. Watching the performances, it is
easy to notice that Polish and Russian people share a similar attitude
towards theatre as one of fewmedia of social debate, serious dialogue,
and identity of elites. As the curators of
