Miłosz in Madrid
Madrid, September – October 2011
The interdisciplinary project in the Spanish capital opened with the
exhibition ‘The Captive Mind. The Tyranny of Images in Polish Art
Photography after 1945’, prepared by the Asymetria Gallery in Warsaw.
The exhibition closed on 3rd October with a two-day conference devoted
to Czesław Miłosz, his work and its perception in Europe, featuring
prominent intellectuals: Abraham Gragera, Álvaro de la Rica, Fernando
Savater, Xavier Farré Vidal, Azar Nafisi, Mercedes Monmany, Mindaugas
Kvietkauskas, Aleksander Fiut, Adam Michnik, Marek Zaleski, Jerzy Illg,
Agnieszka Kosińska and Andrzej Franaszek. The programme closed with
a screening of the film
Valley of the Issa
, directed by Tadeusz Konwicki
based on CzesławMiłosz’s novel.
