“Feast” by Olaf Brzeski – a visual feast at the Gerhard-Marcks-Haus in Bremen
An exhibition “Feast” by Olaf Brzeski will be presented from 16 November 2025 at the Gerhard-Marcks-Haus in Bremen. The exhibition shows surrealist sculptures from the artist’s world, exploring the development of his artistic language. The partner of the first major exhibition of the Polish artist’s works in Germany is the Adam Mickiewicz Institute.
The first large exhibition of the Polish artist Olaf Brzeski in Germany – surrealist sculptures in Bremen
Works by Olaf Brzeski grow out of surreal visions, fears, dreams, and everyday situations, which the artist depicts through sculpture, drawings, and film. His works tell personal stories and create new pictorial worlds. Brzeski blends pop culture, mysterious Tibetan myths, and personal experiences with lightness. He creates in different modes and techniques, which he explores anew each time – sometimes massively, sometimes lightly, almost like drawing in space. The scale of his works also varies, making viewers experience very different perceptions. Each exhibition room becomes a unique space of experience in which the artist is often intimately present, also when confronted with his own demons.
At times Brzeski’s subconscious messages take the form of nightmares – like the big blue head of a vampire – or intriguing imagery, such as the scene in which a lion licks a green frog. At Gerhard-Marcks-Haus, Olaf Brzeski is presenting his first major exhibition in Germany. The English title of the exhibition, “Feast,” can function as both a noun and a verb, combining all aspects of importance to the artist: a feast for the eyes, hospitality, delight, lavish celebration, preparing a feast, savouring. In short, an all-round visual feast. The exhibits include, among others, the ceramic “Vampire” (2023/24), “Sunset over Baltic Sea” and “Half Dream” from the Adventure Series (2020), the porcelain “Post tenebras lux” (2018), the ceramic “Francis and the Frog” (2024) and “Reflection” (2020).
