On 10 October 2026, Viirus Theatre in Helsinki hosted the world premiere of “Collage – stage of things”. The performance was created jointly by four artists from Finland, Sweden and Poland, one of whom is theatre director Gosia Wdowik. It runs until 4 December 2026. The Adam Mickiewicz Institute is a co-producer of the performance.

“Collage – stage of things” – a living collage at Viirus Theatre

“Collage – stage of things” is an international, interdisciplinary project. Viirus Theatre invited four artists who had never met before and come from different artistic backgrounds. In Helsinki, they brought their practices and ways of working into confrontation, searching for new connections in this messy era.

Their starting points could not have been more different. One artist envisioned a dentist’s room and the Sumerian toothworm. Another was inspired by the concept of bodies without organs and a practice called staying with. The third was interested in how to perform pain and construct wounds, while the fourth wanted to work with the Romantic era and head towards an invisible mountain.

Instead of compromising, the artists let these ideas collide and intertwine. The result is what they call a living collage, in which humour blends with tragedy and absurdity. This may be the beginning of something new that we do not yet know.

The performance challenges individualism, separation and ownership. It places collaboration at the centre of the stage – in all its messiness and potential.
