“Wieniawski in Blue” will resound at the Usedomer Musikfestival! Henryk Wieniawski’s compositions, arranged by Dariusz Zboch for solo violin, string orchestra and jazz trio, will be performed on 26 September 2024 at 19:30 in the seaside resort of Heringsdorf on the Usedom island.

“Wieniawski in Blue” – a jazz concert in Germany

“Wieniawski in Blue” is a jazz project and respects the laws governing the jazz genre. The presence of a classic jazz trio, consisting of a piano, drums and double bass, forms the basis here. They are accompanied by a string orchestra, which is not reduced to creating a background but plays an equal role. A jazz violin completes the whole. The arrangements are quite faithful, but leave room for improvisation for violin and piano, bass or drums. The project has already been presented in Poland, including as part of the Łódź Philharmonic’s 2022 “Colours of Poland” Festival, at the Silesian Philharmonic in Katowice and in March 2023 at the Krzysztof Penderecki European Centre for Music in Lutosławice.

Henryk Wieniawski was one of the most renowned violinists of the 19th century. His violin concertos are still included in the repertoire of famous virtuosos from around the world. Violinist Piotr Pławner is the laureate of the First Prize at the 10th International Henryk Wieniawski Violin Competition. In the “Wieniawski in Blue” project, he combines the Silesian Chamber Orchestra and the Trio Pawła Tomaszewskiego jazz ensemble to create modern fantasies centering around Wieniawski’s music, to a both captivating and energetic effect.

Usedomer Musikfestival is a music festival on the Usedom island that every year, from September to October, showcases the musical treasures from the Baltic Sea region. The changing focus on different countries allows presenting the musical diversity of Northern Europe and the musical richness of the countries and regions interconnected by the Baltic Sea. The festival has been going on since 1994. In 2024 it has focused its attention on Poland.

The “Wieniawski in Blue” concert at the Usedomer Musikfestival will be held on 26 September 2024 at 19:30 at the Seetelhotel Villa Esplanade. It will feature jazz arrangements of Henryk Wieniawski’s violin works arranged by Dariusz Zboch. Artists and ensembles that will perform in front of the audience include:

• Piotr Pławner (violin and conductor)
• Trio Pawła Tomaszewskiego
