I, CULTURE ORCHESTRA on tour

One of the most dynamically growing youth orchestras in the world, the I CULTURE Orchestra is set to launch the 7th edition of the project.

For the past 7 years, the Orchestra has brought together musicians from Poland and the Eastern Partnership member states. On the occasion of the centenary of Polish independence, the Orchestra is joined by young artists from Central Europe, as the 2018 edition of the ICO includes musicians from Hungary.

This year’s edition of the ICO began on 22 July with a concert at Warsaw’s Royal Castle, held as part of the “Music Gardens” Festival. The Warsaw performance is followed by a tour of Europe’s most prestigious venues, including Montpellier’s Opéra Berlioz (Radio France Festival), Amsterdam’s Concertgebouw, and Copenhagen’s Tivoli. The orchestra is led by its Artistic Director Kirill Karabits, and accompanied by the standout Serbian violinist Nemanja Radulović.

During their summer tour, the I, CULTURE Orchestra performs Igor Stravinsky’s “The Rite of Spring,” Pyotr Tchaikovsky’s Violin Concerto (Warsaw, Montpellier), Stanisław Moniuszko’s mazurka from the opera “Halka” (Montpellier), Sergei Prokofiev’s Violin Concerto in g-minor (Amsterdam, Copenhagen), and traditional pieces by composers from the Eastern Partnership members states, such as Armenia (Aram Khachaturian’s suite from the ballet “Spartacus” op. 82 b no. 1) and Azerbaijan (Kara Karayev’s baroque suite “Seven Beauties”).

The programme of the summer tour was rehearsed during a two-week residency of the Orchestra in Katowice. The young musicians honed their skills during section rehearsals with tutors-members of such renowned ensembles as the Philharmonia Orchestra, London Symphony Orchestra, Berliner Philharmoniker, and the BBC Symphony Orchestra.

In autumn 2018, the I, CULTURE Orchestra will go on an international tour celebrating the centenary of Polish independence POLSKA 100. On 25 October, the young musicians will perform at the largest concert hall in Brussels, Palais de Beaux-Arts. The concert will feature the first international performance of Krzysztof PEnderecki’s Polonaise for symphony orchestra.
