On 22 August 2025 in Szczecin and on 24 August 2025 in Leipzig, audiences will have the opportunity to hear concerts by the International Lutosławski Youth Orchestra. The orchestra will present a programme that highlights one of the most important bonds in classical music – the relationship between master and pupil. The Adam Mickiewicz Institute supports the concerts.
Youth Orchestra Symphony Concerts in Poland and Germany
The theme of the International Lutosławski Youth Orchestra concert is the extraordinary relationship between master and pupil – one of the most important bonds in classical music, shaping the world of sound for generations to come. Both Sergei Rachmaninoff and Witold Maliszewski, who later became Witold Lutosławski’s teacher, graduated from Rimsky-Korsakov’s composition class. Exploring these musical connections, the symphony concert programme features works united by the theme of dance, which each of these distinguished composers interpreted in a completely different way. Rachmaninoff’s famous Symphonic Dances, Maliszewski’s virtuoso Kuyavian Fantasy for piano and orchestra, and Lutosławski’s Little Suite will fill the concert halls in Leipzig and Szczecin with their sounds.
The Polish concert will take place on 22 August 2025 at 7:00 pm in the Symphony Hall of the Mieczysław Karłowicz Philharmonic in Szczecin. Two days later, on 24 August 2025 at 8:00 pm, the International Lutosławski Youth Orchestra will make its debut at the legendary Leipzig Gewandhaus. The soloist will be pianist and chamber musician Aleksandra Świgut, winner of the 17th International Edvard Grieg Piano Competition in Bergen and second prize at the International Chopin Competition on Period Instruments in Warsaw. The orchestra will be conducted by Przemysław Neumann.
International Lutosławski Youth Orchestra 2025 in Szczecin and Leipzig
The International Lutosławski Youth Orchestra is one of the few international youth orchestras in Europe. Founded in 2013 to mark the centenary of its patron Witold Lutosławski’s birth, the orchestra brings together young musicians from around the world, united by music as a universal language of humanity. The ensemble’s composition is renewed annually. The orchestra performs annually at the Szczecin Philharmonic, the main organiser of the project, and also appears in other prestigious concert halls. In 2025, the International Lutosławski Youth Orchestra will return to Germany after three years to share its passion for music with European audiences.
