Credo in Rome – A Tribute to Krzysztof Penderecki and John Paul II
Sacred music played a significant role in the creative journey of Krzysztof Penderecki, one of Poland’s most esteemed composers. Maestro Maciej Tworek, who served as Penderecki’s assistant for many years, will conduct the choir and orchestra in a performance of the composer’s Credo on Tuesday, 1 April 2025. This monumental oratorio, composed for five soloists, two choirs, and an orchestra, premiered in 1998. Now, 27 years later, its performance at the Basilica of Santa Maria Maggiore in Rome will commemorate the fifth anniversary of Penderecki’s death and the twentieth anniversary of John Paul II’s passing.
The programme for the Rome concert will feature Credo, performed by the Krakow Philharmonic Choir and Orchestra alongside soloists, under the direction of maestro Maciej Tworek. The concert poster was designed by Marcin Maciejowski, one of Poland’s most renowned contemporary painters. Advance reservation is required for the concert.
