6th edition of the Polish Film Festival in Seoul

The 6th edition of the Polish Film Festival in Seoul begins on 25 September 2024. This year’s festival’s theme is a retrospective of Agnieszka Holland’s works as well as screenings of other films by contemporary Polish female directors. The screenings taking place at the Cinematheque Seoul Art Cinema will be accompanied by meetings with a special guest. The festival is part of the Polish cultural programme in the Republic of Korea in 2024, marking the 35th anniversary of establishing diplomatic relations.

Polish Film Festival – another event on the map of celebrations of the 35th anniversary of diplomatic relations between Poland and the Republic of Korea

Five years have passed since the first edition of the Polish Film Festival. This project was inaugurated as part of the cultural programme celebrating the 30th anniversary of the establishment of diplomatic relations between Poland and the Republic of Korea. The Festival aims at presenting to the Korean viewers the richness of the Polish cinematography and the works of the most prominent Polish directors.

This year, the Polish Film Festival has once again become part of the celebrations of another round anniversary of the establishment of Polish-Korean diplomatic relations. The cultural programme to mark the 35th anniversary of Polish-Korean diplomatic relations began in August 2024 and will continue until January 2025.

Contemporary female directors’ cinematography at the Polish Film Festival in Seoul

The broad selection of Agnieszka Holland’s films at the Polish Film Festival includes both her classics from the 1970s and 1980s and more recent movies. Apart from Holland’s works, the Korean viewers will have a chance to watch films by other recognised female directors: Jagoda Szelc, Małgorzata Szumowska, Anna Kazejak, Anna Zamecka and Agnieszka Smoczyńska.

  • “Woman of...” (2023), directed by: Małgorzata Szumowska
  • “Fucking Bornholm” (2022), directed by: Anna Kazejak
  • “Communion” (2016), directed by: Anna Zamecka
  • “Silent Twins” (2022), directed by: Agnieszka Smoczyńska

On 28 and 29 September 2024, meetings with a special guest – Jagoda Szelc, director of two films presented at this year’s edition of the Festival – will take place.

The festival takes place between 25 September and 6 October 2024 and is part of the Polish cultural programme in the Republic of Korea in 2024, marking the 35th anniversary of establishing diplomatic relations. It has been organised by the Adam Mickiewicz Institute in collaboration with the Embassy of the Republic of Poland in Seoul and Cinematheque Seoul Art Cinema.
