Sinfonia Varsovia on tour – concerts in South Korea and Hong Kong

Sinfonia Varsovia’s Asian tour begins on 26 November 2024. The Warsaw orchestra will perform together with a Korean violinist Ju-young Baek and a celloist Trey Lee from Hong Kong. The orchestra will be conducted by Alexander Liebreich. The programme of concerts includes works by Dvořák, Brahms, Prokofiev, Karłowicz, Kilar and Lutosławski. The tour is a part of the schedule of cultural events celebrating the 35th anniversary of the establishment of diplomatic relations between Poland and South Korea.

Sinfonia Varsovia’s concerts in South Korea accompanied by a violinist Ju-young Baek

The tour of Sinfonia Varsovia will begin with the performance at Daegu Concert House in the Korean city of Daegu. The concert that will take place on 26 November 2024 is a part of the World Orchestra Series festival. The second event in Korea is planned on 27 November 2024. The orchestra will perform in Seoul at the Seoul Arts Center.

The concerts’ repertoire will include works by Polish and Central European composers. The orchestra, conducted by Alexander Liebreich, will perform “Little Suite” by Witold Lutosławski, “Orawa” by Wojciech Kilar and “Lithuanian Rhapsody”, Op. 11 by Mieczysław Karłowicz, “Symphony No. 7 in D minor”, Op.​​ 70 by Antonin Dvořák as well as “Violin Concerto in D major”, Op. 77 by Johannes Brahms.

Ju-Young Baek will perform violin parts together with Sinfonia Varsovia.

Sinfonia Varsovia’s concerts in Hong Kong accompanied by Trey Lee

The performances in Hong Kong will begin on 29 November 2024 at the Academic Community Hall of the Hong Kong Baptist University. Sinfonia Varsovia, led by its concertmaster Adam Siebers, will perform, among others, “Symphony No. 1”, Op. 25, also known as the Classical, by Sergei Prokofiev. It will be an early afternoon concert aimed at an audience of schoolchildren aged 12 and above.

The tour will be crowned with a ceremonial concert at the Hong Kong Cultural Centre that will take place on 1 December 2024. At the same time, the concert will be a finale of this year’s Musicus Fest. Sinfonia Varsovia will perform with the artistic director of that festival, Trey Lee. The programme includes, among others, “Violin Concerto in H minor”, Op. 104 by Antonin Dvořák as well as his “Symphony No. 7”.

Yet another event on the map of celebrations of the 35th anniversary of diplomatic relations between Poland and the Republic of Korea

The Korean part of the tour belongs to the schedule of cultural events celebrating the 35th anniversary of the establishment of diplomatic relations between Poland and South Korea. Polish music performed by best Polish artists will be played in Korea again, adding to this year’s numerous presentations of its different faces during Jeonju International Sori Festival, Seoul International Music Festival or Jarasum Jazz Festival.

The cultural programme to mark the 35th anniversary of Polish-Korean diplomatic relations began in August 2024 and will continue until January 2025.
