The 26th Polish Radio Folk Festival “New Tradition” is now behind us! From 15 to 18 May 2025, the 26th edition of the Polish Radio Folk Festival “New Tradition” took place at the Witold Lutosławski Concert Studio in Warsaw. This unique event, as every year, attracted lovers of music inspired by tradition – both artists and audiences eager for original sounds.

26th Polish Radio Folk Festival “New Tradition”

The “New Tradition” Festival is one of the most important folk music events in Poland, organised by Polish Radio since 1998. Its aim is to promote contemporary traditional music. Inspiration may come not only from Polish heritage, but also from the sounds of national minorities and cultures from around the world. The festival combines a creative approach to tradition with modern sounds, presenting artists who reinterpret folk music in innovative ways. “New Tradition” is not only about concerts – it also features a competition that each year selects the most promising performers on the folk scene. The event takes place at the Witold Lutosławski Polish Radio Concert Studio in Warsaw and attracts both genre experts and listeners eager for musical discoveries.

The 26th edition of the Polish Radio Folk Festival “New Tradition” showcased bands that once again demonstrated how diverse and vibrant folk music can be in a modern context. The festival culminated in the announcement of the Grand Prix competition results – an award funded by the Minister of Culture and National Heritage. This year, the top prize went to the group Tercet Imperial, recognised “for proving that space exists”. The full list of winners is available on the Polish Radio website.

Adam Mickiewicz Institute Award for Three Ensembles

The Adam Mickiewicz Institute was also present at this year’s edition of the Festival, honouring three exceptional ensembles. Jakub Kluś Kwintet, Fie.dronowicz, and Memento Mori Dance Club were awarded the opportunity to take part in the international music fair WOMEX, which will be held this October in Finland. This is a unique chance for the artists to present their work to a global audience.

Congratulations to all the winners and participants of the 26th “New Tradition” Festival!
