“Violin Odyssey: Bacewicz vol. 1” – premiere of the new album

The record “Violin Odyssey: Bacewicz vol. 1” was released in February 2025. Janusz Wawrowski, together with the Lithuanian National Symphony Orchestra and Tymoteusz Bies, has prepared the recordings of violin works by Grażyna Bacewicz. The album has been recorded in cooperation with the Adam Mickiewicz Institute.

Grażyna Bacewicz’s violin works on a new album

The record “Violin Odyssey: Bacewicz vol. 1” is the first volume of the multi-annual project aimed at bringing all violin works by Grażyna Bacewicz closer to the public. Bacewicz, one of the most important composers of the 20th century and a phenomenal violinist, is currently being rediscovered by broader audiences. A Pole with Lithuanian ancestry, she is becoming an inspiration and a symbol of change for contemporary women and artists. The first record is made of up sonatas, a concerto, caprices, partita, as well as miniatures.

Bacewicz’s violin works are performed by Janusz Wawrowski. The Polish violin virtuoso and laureate of numerous awards is also a university lecturer. He was accompanied in the recording process by the Lithuanian National Symphony Orchestra directed by Modestas Pitrėnas, and a pianist Tymoteusz Bies. Most of the pieces were recorded in Lithuania – in Vilnius and Paliesius Manor.

The record includes such pieces as: “The Polish Caprice” (1949), “Violin Concerto vol. 7” (1965), “4 Caprices for Solo Violin” (1968), and “Two Sonatas for Solo Violin” (1941, 1958). The release of the record is accompanied by the world premiere of transcription of the “Caprice in A-minor vol. 24” by Nicolò Paganini for violin and piano, prepared by Grażyna Bacewicz. You can now immerse yourselves in the realm of world-class music included on the record for nearly an hour and a half.

The album has been available on streaming services from the day of Grażyna Bacewicz’s birthday anniversary, that is, 5 February 2025.
